ABOUT US
Northern Vietnam is one of the poorest regions of the country. Poverty particularly affects the ethnic minorities living in the province of Ha Giang, close to China. Local people live mainly from agriculture and rarely have access to formal employment.
Tourism is being a great opportunity for this region. Amazing landscapes over mountains and river are letting a lot of national and international tourists to visit the area. In this context, Yen Sung, a young Hmong woman, decided to launch a sustainable tourism project. She first created a homestay to receive tourists in the place where her family used to live. Thanks to the revenues generated by this activity, she could finance the opening of an English class for Hmong children of the area, with the vision that it would allow them to work on the field on tourism later on. The second stage is to create a bed and breakfast hostel to develop community based tourism activities (trekking, handcraft, discovering ethnic villages, etc.) to employ local people and generate more revenues for those families.
Yen
Hello, my name is Yen. I am a young woman from Meovac (Hagiang province) belonging to an ethnic minority called the White H'mong. My dream is to travel to many countries in the World, to see many beautiful places, to meet different people and to learn more about different cultures. Sadly it is a really difficult dream for a young H’mong woman, so I decided to open a homestay instead. By this mean, people from all over the world come to me! And my dream came true. I am now running 2 homestays in Meovac town (Little Yen's Homestay and Meovac H'mong Ecolodge). Besides running homestays, I am also providing free English classes for local kids and training our staff. My sense of accomplishment comes when not only I can help my family and I, but also when I help my community. And I would like to give you my guests, not only the best services but also to share our culture. Know that, by using any services in our places, you are supporting our project and helping our community. We are so glad to have you, please come and let’s share together! Thank you so much
